Family Groups

Every child at Riverside is a member of a family group. Our family groups are made up of a member of staff (teaching and non- teaching) and at least one child from every year group starting with the F2 children.

We meet once a week and this enables us to develop strong relationships with all members of the group and gives us a sense of belonging. The older members of the group enjoy taking responsibility for the younger children. Each week we share what we have been doing at home and our plans for the week ahead. We reflect on our choices and other issues that arise and are important to us week by week, for example, aspirations and goals. We also use these sessions to deliver information relating to global issues, our school core values and Modern British Values.

Within our groups we are able to develop socially, morally, spiritually and culturally. It gives us the opportunity to talk about how we keep ourselves and others safe, and we use this time to have a voice and share our views. We use a fabulous resource called LYFTA, which is an online resource filled with storyworlds about different people from different countries and cultures around the world. We watch the clips and reflect on the stories in comparison with our lives.

"A Lyfta storyworld is an immersive learning environment where students and teachers can explore real human stories through 360° spaces and soundscapes, high-quality documentary films, and rich media articles. Storyworlds are at the heart of Lyfta, offering learners intimate windows into the lives and lessons of people from across the globe." (Lyfta, 2024)
