Successful education has always had at its root a good three way partnership of pupil, teacher and parent. We share your aspirations for your child and aim to work with you in providing a secure, happy and stimulating environment in which the children will be encouraged to learn and in which they will be well prepared for the future.
We are proud of the dedicated and enthusiastic staff who will teach your child and offer the commitment that, together, we will achieve real success for those placed in our care.
Our school recently became 50 years old - happy birthday Riverside! Below is a photo taken in 1967 and another taken very recently:
The school opened in 1967 as a junior school. In 1984 it amalgamated with the local infant school to become Riverside Community Primary School. It has a staff of Headteacher, 15 full time equivalent teaching staff, 9 class based teaching assistants, 6 teaching assistants dedicated to children with special educational needs and 3 Higher Learning Teaching Assistants. There are eight junior classes, six infant classes and a nursery which offers caters for up to 26 children per session. Nursery sessions are 3 hours in length and can be taken mornings, afternoons, or if parents opt for our Lunch Club, provision is avaliable for full-day care. The school also operates its own before and after-school club called 'The Play Place'.
Currently there are 460 children on our school roll.
Although the majority of the children at Riverside live in Tadcaster itself the school serves the villages of Stutton, Towton and Newton Kyme.
We are part of a network of schools known as the STAR Teaching School Alliance (Sherburn, Tadcaster and Rural). Our schools are inter-linked in many ways, to the benefit of all of our pupils through sports fixtures, curriculum opportunities, teacher development, special events....the list is endless! In May 2018, we also became a founding member of the STAR Multi-Academy Trust, deepening and strengthening further our relationships with our local partner schools.
