Our Autumn term welcome letter can be found here welcome to year 3 newsletter
Our topic for the Autumn term is 'The Stone Age'. We will be travelling back in time from early life through to the bronze and iron ages. We will be discovering the food people ate, where people lived, how woolly mammoths became extinct and the importance of different tools for hunting and farming. There will be lots of art and craft opportunities such as cave painting and clay pottery making. Linked closely with this topic is our science work on rocks, soils and fossils. The children will research famous fossil hunter Mary Anning and begin to discover how fossils are formed. In literacy lessons, we will be writing diary entries, stories and instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth! Our focus for maths is place value, addition and subtraction and securing the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
The children will take part in daily whole class reading sessions and will also be read with individually throughout the week. Please use the reading journal at home to log the books you read together. We encourage all children to read daily and look forward to celebrating their progress with you.
P.E for 3JW is on a Tuesday.
P.E for 3JA is on a Thursday.
On these days, children can arrive at school in their P.E kit for the whole day.
