Happy New Year!
Welcome back to Year 5. The adults who work in this year are: Mr Calvert, Mr Hunt, Mr Lee and Mrs Morley. We are looking forward to a new, exciting term where our main topic will be 'Anglo Saxons and Vikings!' We will base a lot our work this term around this and please encourage children to bring in things that may support their learning. There is a letter to parents and an overview of the curriculum we will cover this term at the bottom of the page which we hope you find useful.
Our policy for homework will continue to be little and often. Children are given spellings to copy in to their planners each Friday/Monday depending on the class, which needs to be returned and completed the following Friday/Monday ready for a test. A list has been sent home with the termly overview of all the spellings tohelp you support your child this term. Reading books come home daily and we encourage children to read for approximately 10 minutes a night. Please would you also encourage them to record this reading in their planner. To help with their maths, children are given SMIRF targets are encouraged to practise these skills daily.
Our class novel this term is 'How to Train Your Dragob' by Cressida Cowell. We would like to encourage parents to purchase a copy of this book for their children if possible but we do have a few copies in school if this is not possible.
We have also arranges two exciting days this term- our trip to Magma museum to support our science work and a day "repeating Viking history' as Bjorg the Viking makes an appearance to deliver a hands on Viking experience to the children. Both of these do incurr a slight cost which are available to pay for now on ParentPay.
Children require indoor shoes at school and will need P.E kits on Tuesday and Thursday if in 5WC and Thursday and Wednesday if in 5JH.
We hope your children have another great term and please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.
