Look out for Class News coming here!
Welcome to year 5 for the Autumn term! Please check the website for updates and pictures of events.
Welcome to Year 5 with Mr Calvert and Mr Hunt. Both classes have already made a super start to the year and really impressed us both.
Our policy for homework is little and often. Children are given spellings to copy in to their planners each Friday/Monday depending on the class, which needs to be returned and completed the following Friday/Monday ready for a test. A list has been sent home with the termly overview of all the spellings tohelp you support your child this term. Reading books come home daily and we encourage children to read for approximately 10 minutes a night. Please would you also encourage them to record this reading in their planner. To help with their maths, children are given SMIRF targets are encouraged to practise these skills daily.
Our class novel this term is 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' by Rick Riordan. We would like to encourage parents to purchase a copy of this book for their children if possible but we do have a few copies in school if this is not possible. This book is challenging and we do spend a lot of time discussing the text in school. It would help to reinforce this if they can also discuss what is happening at home, summarising the key events.
We are aware that Year 5 falls in beween two expensive residential trips in Year 4 and 6 so we will not be going on a school trip in the autumn term. We do ask for donations to help with some educational experiences including Viking day, a trip to Mangna Science museum and Stocksbridge in the spring and summer terms and we will try to spread out the payments for these over the year as best we can.
Children require indoor shoes at school and will need P.E kits on Tuesday and Thursday if in 5WC and Thursday and Wednesday if in 5JH.
We hope your children have another great term and please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.
Please see the followinf pdf document for the termly curriculum overview.
