At Riverside , our Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum looks like this:
We love to talk here at Riverside. Especially in other languages! MFL or Modern Foreign Languages are an important part of a child's education. Speaking another language opens up a world of opportunities.
At Riverside we have families from Japan, Peru, Argentina, Poland and Italy to name but a few. These languages are spoken at home, enriching the communication and language skills of the children who hear them. We celebrate language learning each year with European Languages Day in September.
For the 2018 celebration we held a whole school Eurovision song contest. Children learnt songs and key words in Spanish, Swedish, French and Portugese. We finished the day with a whole school performance which was lots of fun!
Children from Year 5 and 6 have been to Tadcaster Grammar School this year for exciting French Language Learning Days including making pancakes and recording weather reports in French.
2019 will be an even more exciting year for MFL. We are now linked with a French school in St-Chely d'Apcher, Tadcaster's twinned town. We will be setting up a pen pal scheme with children in KS2.
