Design and Technology
Within this area of the curriculum we endeavour to develop the children’s design and technology capability through combining their Design and Making skills with knowledge and understanding. It is about identifying needs, generating ideas, making and testing to find the best solutions. On many occasions the activities are linked with science and art topics.
The process of practical problem solving is founded in design and technology. In the early stages situations may be highlighted in discussion, perhaps as a story with the children, or perhaps as an extension of a theme or topic. As the children develop it is expected that they will be able to identify their own needs from a variety of circumstances. Individual responses to the solution of problems are encouraged.
